Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance provides direction and leadership for YMCA finance and accounting operations. The Director of Finance provides direction and leadership for the Y business operations and strategic initiatives, overseeing the long-term health and viability of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Oversee the YMCA’s accounting practices, annual budgeting, maintenance of fiscal records, preparation of financial reports, tax returns and external audit, as well as business insurance and risk management.
• Performs accounting functions, monitors monthly financial operations, prepares analysis, and gives guidance to operating staff on issues that affect financial outcome.
• Partners with Board Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Foundation Board concerning YMCA financial affairs.
• Works closely with CEO and members of the senior leadership team, along with the Board of Directors, to provide financial reporting and information as scheduled and requested. Conducts complex analyses, identifies financial trends, and makes recommendations to solve problems and enhance financial performance where possible.
• Manages workflow and daily activities of the accounting team, ensuring best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained.
• Provides support and manages the directives for the finance department staff.
• Acts as a backup to human resources for payroll processing.
• Oversees and certifies the annual audit and meets periodically with the outside auditors to maintain communication and keep them informed of changes in the organization. Ensures that current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
• Manages and provides leadership to the development and monitoring of the annual operating budget
• Reviews all contracts and holds responsibility for record retention.
• Responsible for key financial systems set-up, training of users and providing continual support to ensure that best practices and maximum efficiency is achieved.
• Assists with projects included but not limited to adhoc reporting, insurance renewals/claims, internal auditing, leases/contracts, and grant assistance.
• Works with the Development Team to ensure appropriate recognition, monitoring and spending of restricted and unrestricted donor gifts and grants.
• Follows emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follows procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents, and hazards.
• Adheres to all policies, rules, and regulations as outlined in employee handbook and other communications.
• Obtains and maintains required training(s).
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. Obtain and maintain required training(s).
• Accepts additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• A strong understanding of general business matters, including budget development, cash management, General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and non-profit compliance required.
• Knowledge of general ledger and accounting functions and experience with computerized accounting software required and knowledge of SGA accounting software a plus.
• Experience working with auditors, insurance agencies, development, and financial institutions.
• Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, cost control principles, and federal and state financial regulations required.
• Experience with not-for-profit accounting, grant administration and compliance, and public accounting preferred.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections required.
• Strong analytical, project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines required.
• Intermediate working knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
• Strong interpersonal skills with effective written and oral communication required.
• Ability to be a team player and collaborate over financial decisions, while leading the organization in a net positive direction required.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills required.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required, master’s degree preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
• Five or more years of accounting and finance experience required.
• At least two years of management experience with the ability to lead, support, and delegate to a team of staff in various departments.

Salary : $67,000
