What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Library Clerk position at Van Buren District Library?
LIBRARY CLERK: The District Library Clerk is a position of responsibility, requiring a person who is able to work independently once library routines are mastered. These skills can be learned through on-the-job training.
The District Library Clerk assists in performing basic clerical and library operations. The District Library Clerk serves the branch on a part time basis of 15-20 hours per week that will include some evening and Saturday hours. This position is based out of the library’s administrative headquarters, the Webster Memorial Branch, with regular shifts scheduled at Webster Memorial and the potential to be sent to VBDL’s other branches as part of or in excess of the position’s base hours.
Qualifications: High school diploma, desire to meet and serve the public in a
welcoming and professional manner, ability to learn standard library tasks,
computer skills including Microsoft Office, ability to establish and maintain
effective relationships with associates, supervisors, and the public.
Physical qualifications: Ability to read fine print with or without corrective
lenses, to lift up to 30 pounds, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, and refile library
material up to 90 inches in height. Beginning wage is $16/hour.
