What are the responsibilities and job description for the DRIVER position at Vanguard Furniture Co Inc?
Position Summary: Transport furniture over long distances usually between other plants within our company.
Position Responsibilities:
Complete all assigned loads.
Reports in and gathers information for assigned loads to include delivery bills and tractor.
Complete pre-trip inspection for safety and regulatory compliance.
Make sure the load is on the road in a timely manner to complete delivery to the customer is on time.
Drive safely and in accordance with all DOT regulations.
Break down the load on the truck to allow warehouse associates to more easily take items off the truck. May need to move furniture around in the trailer to help get items off the truck.
Responsible for counting freight to ensure accuracy of the delivery.
Must report any errors to the supervisor/coach including items misplaced and/or damaged.
Must report all accidents immediately to supervisor.
Must work safely at all times and strive for high levels of organization and efficiency, while promoting an environment free of any safety hazards.
Offer suggestion to improve their work environment to their supervisor/coach. Suggestions may include decreasing work in process, improving efficiencies, eliminating wastes, etc.
Other assigned duties according to supervisor/coach.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Must have current driver’s license, correct Class for type of truck (B<26,000#, A>26,000#)
Must have safe driving record.
Must have ability to learn quickly and recognize parts.
Must be proficient in English
Valued but not Required Skills and Experience:
Previous knowledge of furniture assembly.
Physical demands and work environment:
Lift/Carry/Overhead lifting: occasionally lifting various weights between 1 to more than 100 lbs.; over 50 lbs. Use team lift or tools; i.e. pallet jack, hand truck, for greater weights.
Climbing: Must be able to frequently use DOT steps to climb in/out for truck or trailer.
