Schedule: generally, Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm, may be exceptions outside of business hours

Department: reports to Director, Facilities Maintenance, between two Hospital facilities (shared resource)

Job Summary & Qualifications

Under the direction of the Director, Facilities (2 sister locations), the Safety Officer will plan, organize, direct, communicate, and advise on activities related to Safety, Environmental compliance, and Joint Commission Environment of Care compliance. Perform as the Hospital’s Safety Officer and Emergency Preparedness Manager.

• Development, maintenance, and implementation of Environment of Care and emergency management Plans and associated components.
• Maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations including, but not limited to TCEQ, EPA, OSHA, TJC and CMS.
• Maintaining compliance with general workplace safety requirements including OSHA Standards. NFPA, and Uniform Fire Code.
• Maintains regulatory compliance documents in designated system, as required
• Serve as Chairperson of the Emergency Management ad-hoc committee and Co-chair of the Environment of Care Committee and the Safety & Security Committee.
• Serve as hospital appointed Safety Officer
• Responsible for the coordination, execution, and documentation of required emergency preparedness exercises and fire drills.
• Work with the other departments to ensure adherence to infection prevention policies and procedures.
• Coordinate and conduct environmental tours of clinical and nonclinical areas at the hospital and off-site locations.
• Document and report findings/resolutions to the Environment of Care Committee at least once per quarter.
• Provide education for new employees and staff as required.
• Responsible for Safety and Emergency preparedness for all offsite facilities and properties.
• Trends and statistics shall be reported monthly to the Director of Facilities
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent/GED required
• Minimum of 5 years of multi-disciplinary experience and oversite of two of the following areas in a healthcare facility: Environment of Care, Life Safety, and/or Emergency Management.
• Proficient in general office software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to present training programs, program reports, and other materials to groups.
• Ability to organize and maintain documentation standards for compliance.
• Working knowledge of the requirements of OSHA, TCEQ, EPA, CMS and TJC Standards.
• Maintain the strictest of confidentiality.
• Exceptional organizational skills required.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• Expected to be able to work independently and with other department leaders to accomplish desired outcomes.
• Interfaces with the public officials, physicians, staff, patients, and support department representatives in a positive manner.
• Hold a current driver’s license and be expected to transport self to and from off-site locations and functions as required.
