Job Summary

 

Provide diagnosis and remediation for students with hearing problems.

 

Essential Duties

  1. Implement screening and /or referral procedures to identify students needing hearing evaluations.

 

  1. Review available medical/audiological information pertaining to the student’s performance and probable use of hearing; obtaining updated medical/audiological information and share with parent, teacher, and other appropriate staff

 

  1. Obtain diagnostic information through formalized testing.

 

  1. Gathers information from teachers and parents to assist in assessing specific student problems.

 

  1. Collaborates with support staff, parents, other professionals, and agencies regarding student educational needs.

 

  1. Teaches students who are hearing, deaf, and hard-of-hearing.

 

  1. Plans instruction as needed per Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

 

  1. Develops long-range goals and short-term objectives for students’ individualized education program (IEP).

 

  1. Develops appropriate accommodations and services for students’ individualized education program (IEP).

 

  1. Records student progress and other data as required per IEPs and school monitoring procedures.

 

  1. Schedules and groups students according to the nature and severity of their condition.

 

  1. Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

 

A valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in teaching the hearing impaired is required.  A license from CAID (Conference on American Instructors of the Deaf) is also required.  Competency in administering and interpreting tests for hearing impaired.  A working knowledge of group application systems and skill in manual communication is required.  Knowledge of local, state, and national facilities for serving the hearing impaired.  Suck alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board of Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
