Job Summary: To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary learning
environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the
supervision of the Principal or Assistant Principal.
Essential Functions: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various

? Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
? Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established district procedures and
curriculum frameworks.
? Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
? Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
? Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
? Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and policies of the school district.
? Provide appropriate feedback on work.
? Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use data to adjust teaching strategies.
? Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
? Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
? Prepare required reports on students and activities.
? Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.
? Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and
student needs.
? Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
? Prepare the classroom for class activities.
? Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
? Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development.
? Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
? Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability
backgrounds.
? Encourage parent and community involvement; obtain information for parents when requested; promptly return
phone calls and answer emails.
? Participate in professional development activities in and outside the district.
? Any other relative duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal or Principal.
Education and Experience: Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in area of major study is required with a
minimum of three years teaching experience in an elementary school setting; or any combination of education and work
experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Massachusetts Teaching License with certification in Elementary
Education at the grade 1-6 level.
Skills and Ability:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons
based on district objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain
effective relationships with students, peers and parents; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school
district; skills in oral and written communication is required.
