The Sr. Staff Accountant will be a hybrid role (3 days/week) in our St. Pete or West Palm Beach, FL office location.

Job Responsibilities include:
General Ledger & Accounting Operations
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts with a focus on accuracy and completeness.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
Financial Reporting
Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
Support regulatory reporting requirements, including NAIC quarterly and annual statement filings.
Contribute to internal and external audit processes, providing documentation and analysis as needed.
Insurance-Specific Accounting
Support the accounting for unearned premium reserves, loss reserves, reinsurance, and policy acquisition costs.
Work closely with underwriting, claims, and actuarial teams to ensure accuracy of financial results.
Assist with reinsurance accounting, including ceded premium and recoverable reconciliation.
Process Improvement & Special Projects
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, increase efficiency, and enhance financial reporting.
Support system implementations, upgrades, or enhancements (e.g., general ledger, subledgers, reporting tools)
Participate in cross-functional initiatives, including financial planning, audit readiness, and regulatory changes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress toward certification strongly preferred.
- 3–6 years of accounting experience, ideally within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Solid understanding of GAAP; familiarity with statutory accounting (SAP) and NAIC reporting is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Workday, or similar) and proficiency in Excel.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
