Release Train Engineer – IMT GenAI Platform
Overview:
Innovative Medicine Technology (IMT) R&D is actively seeking a Release Train Engineer (RTE) to join our team and drive the development of our GenAI Platform and other AI-driven initiatives. The IMT R&D GenAI Platform is an enterprise solution supporting various functions, including Drug Discovery & Development, Data Science, Commercial Data Science, and more.
As an RTE, you will play a crucial role in managing, coordinating, and optimizing the Agile Release Train (ART) for platform development, ensuring seamless software releases and deployments. You will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, compliance, and leadership teams to plan, schedule, and oversee releases, ensuring they meet quality standards and align with Janssen’s regulatory and business requirements.
This is a high-impact role at the intersection of Agile delivery, AI innovation, and enterprise-scale software development.
Key Focus Areas/Deliverables:
Release Planning & Coordination:
- Develop and maintain release plans, including scheduling, tracking dependencies, and coordinating release activities.
- Communicate release timelines and status updates to all stakeholders.
- Align release objectives with business and technical goals.
Release Process Management:
- Oversee the end-to-end release process, ensuring compliance with Janssen’s release policies.
- Manage risks, issues, and dependencies to ensure successful and timely releases.
- Optimize release pipelines for efficiency and reliability.
Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration:
- Act as the primary liaison for all release-related communications.
- Ensure stakeholders clearly understand release scope, risks, and impact.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Tech Leads, Engineers, and Leadership to align priorities.
Quality Assurance & Change Management:
- Ensure all releases meet high-quality standards through comprehensive testing and validation.
- Collaborate with QA teams to integrate automated testing and validation workflows.
- Work closely with the Change Management team to ensure alignment with Janssen’s policies and best practices.
Agile Delivery & Continuous Improvement:
- Drive Agile Release Train (ART) execution across multiple teams, facilitating Program Increment (PI) Planning and ensuring continuous delivery.
- Lead Agile transformation efforts and coach teams on SAFe principles.
- Continuously analyze release processes and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Agile Release Trains (ARTs): Oversee execution and delivery of GenAI platform initiatives, ensuring timely releases.
- Program Increment (PI) Planning: Define and execute Program Increments through structured PI planning sessions.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work with Tech Leads, Product Engineers, and Scrum Teams to ensure alignment and resolve dependencies.
- Backlog Management: Maintain product backlog and release plans, ensuring proper prioritization and transparency.
- Scrum & Agile Execution: Facilitate Scrum-of-Scrums, sprint planning, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the key interface between business owners, product managers, engineering teams, and leadership.
- Impediment Removal: Identify and eliminate blockers that impact Agile teams’ velocity and progress.
- Agile Coaching & Mentorship: Lead Agile transformation efforts and coach teams new to Scrum/SAFe methodologies.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 8 years of experience leading Scrum, Agile, or SAFe teams in enterprise software development.
- 2-4 years of experience in product/platform release management, overseeing complex product deployments.
- Strong project management skills, with expertise in planning, scheduling, and multi-team coordination.
- Analytical problem-solving ability, particularly in high-pressure, deadline-driven environments.
- Experience in Agile/SAFe transformation efforts, including Program Increment (PI) backlog management.
- Proficiency in coordinating cross-functional dependencies and removing blockers.
- SAFe Certification (SAFe RTE, SAFe Agilist, or equivalent) – Mandatory.
- Expertise in Agile frameworks, JIRA, Confluence, and Agile release tracking tools.
Preferred:
- Experience in GenAI, Data Science, or AI-driven platform development.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical R&D processes and compliance requirements.
