Job Summary
The Millwright is responsible for maximizing mill efficiency through preventive maintenance, machinery repair and modification, and the installation of new equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring seamless production operations by collaborating with the Maintenance Director, lead millwright, electricians, production supervisors, machine operators, and cleanup teams. A strong emphasis on safety and teamwork is essential in this position.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in welding and fabrication.
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills for hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to align machinery accurately.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems in manufacturing environments.
- Competence in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical documents.
- Knowledge of various metal compositions and their applications.
- Familiarity with machine-specific lockout procedures and safety protocols.
- Effective communication and decision-making skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
Qualifications
- Experience: Proven expertise in millwright operations, including preventive maintenance and equipment repair.
- Technical Knowledge: Hands-on experience with a wide range of millwright tools and machinery.
- Education/Certifications: Welding certification and knowledge of safety regulations preferred.
Key Responsibilities Essential Functions
These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this role.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on machinery and ensure scheduled tasks are completed efficiently.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment problems, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and gravitational systems.
- Align and modify machinery as needed, ensuring proper operation post-repair.
- Order replacement parts and document necessary follow-up work on the “Work List.”
- Install new machinery as required.
- Learn to operate machine centers and assist with pre-shift machinery warm-ups.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the shop and parts areas.
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, hoists, cranes, drills, presses, and key cutters.
- Perform welding and fabrication using arc and wire feed welders, cutting torches, and track burners.
- Read and follow blueprints and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Uphold a strong “Safety First” mindset, using ACES guidelines for decision-making.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Work in confined spaces when required.
