The Department of Forensic Science is seeking an Administrative Coordinator to independently coordinate and manage all day-to-day administrative operations. This position also provides administrative support to the Chair and serves as the liaison between them and other units within and external to the university. This position will use strong analytical and organizational skills, and ensure that all relevant College, university, state, and federal policies and procedures are followed.

Typical Duties
- Provides support to the Director of Graduate Studies by coordinating the graduate admission process, managing the database, responding to prospective graduate student inquiries, and assisting in managing the post-admission process.
- This position independently manages the Department's community engagement activities, including scheduling of tours/visitor activities, maintenance of partnerships, and advocacy for capacity building in organizational outreach.
- Oversees the Department's facilities, including coordination of classroom space for courses, management of access to all Department spaces, and serving as a liaison to VCU facilities, other department's spaces, and external entities for facilities-related issues.
- Coordinates and continues to develop the department’s outreach efforts to prospective students, engagement of current students and alumni, coordinates accreditation and assessment efforts, serves as liaison with human resources and finance, manages special projects, and implements office procedures.
- Serves as the chief administrator for student affairs, which includes responding to routine inquiries and/or delegating inquiries regarding the academic programs, organizing and administering open houses and orientations, and updating the website, blog, and social media outlets and manages and coordinates other communications for the department such as the newsletter.
- Provides support to the full-time advisor and graduate and undergraduate directors to process waivers, overrides, overloads, and other similar issues.
- Trains and supervises all office personnel and ensures the front-line operations of the department are handled professionally and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of the general organization and operation of the College, University and Forensic Science department.
- Knowledge of university, state, and federal policies and procedures as they relate to student affairs, purchasing, travel, etc.
- Familiarity with undergraduate and graduate student rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Supervisory experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise professional discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently and creatively, using sound judgment and available resources.
- Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to work in fast-paced environment while attending to details and meeting deadlines
- Ability to interact with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
- Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Exceptional verbal/written communication skills that can be utilized in supervision and management.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and produce summary reports for a variety of audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
- Ability to provide front-line support for academic unit.
- Experience in community outreach to develop and maintain partnerships that benefit Forensic Science, the university and the region.
