The Department of Marketing in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), in Richmond, Virginia, invites applicants for a full-time term faculty position to start in August 2025. The Department of Marketing offers an undergraduate major in Marketing with concentrations in marketing communication and analytics, product and brand management, and general marketing. It also offers minors in marketing insights and in sales. The minor in sales is open to marketing students and students across the campus. At the graduate level, the department offers a Master of Science concentration in Marketing Management and a Master of Decision Analytics concentration in marketing analytics. Additionally, Marketing faculty teach in the MBA, Executive MBA, and online MBA programs. They are also involved in the Ph.D. in Business. The Department has eight full-time faculty who are active researchers and engaged teachers. Marketing faculty have publications in a wide selection of leading journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Product Innovation Management, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Advertising, and Industrial Marketing Management. It is home to Fortune 1000 companies and small start-ups.Responsibilities: This position focuses on teaching (four courses per semester, with additionally compensated summer commitment) and service/administrative roles primarily related to the VCU Center for Professional Selling and the Department of Marketing. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record or the potential for excellent teaching of an introductory undergraduate course in professional selling and an advanced sales or marketing course. The successful candidate will also be named the Director of the VCU Center for Professional Selling and faculty coach for the VCU Sales Team. Last year, the VCU Sales Team competed in eight competitions. Students on the team won or placed in all these competitions; including finishing a remarkable 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the perfect pitch competition at the American Marketing Association International Student Conference. This success positions the VCU sales team in the Top 25 in the United States. As part of this role some travel to competitions with students is expected.The VCU Center for Professional Selling is central Virginia’s academic incubator for developing professional sales talent. Since 2019, VCU was named a “Top Sales University” by the Sales Education Foundation. Support from corporate sponsors funds the center’s activities including scholarships, sales competitions, and conferences for sales students. The Director of the VCU Center for Professional Selling will work with the School of Business’ Career Services to build and maintain relationships with these sponsors. Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess an MBA, or a master’s degree in a field closely related to sales and/or marketing. Applicants should have prior experience in sales, sales management, or business development. Applicants must have demonstrated experience working in and helping foster a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level as well as to those with or earning a doctorate in Marketing or Business Administration with Marketing or Sales/Sales Management as a major or primary concentration. Ideally, the candidate for this position will have prior experience advising student organizations or sales teams and/or teaching marketing and sales courses at the undergraduate or graduate level.
