Position Responsibilities:
The Center on Health Disparities at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications from
qualified candidates seeking a position that provides a mentored research experience, plus teaching
experience. Apply knowledge of training and development, program management, curriculum
development and evaluation methodology. Applies knowledge of training methods to curriculum
evaluation. Participate in the Boot Camp, the hybrid Research Process Course and the Workshop in
Education course, as well as perform the research in the designated laboratory. The research work
will be performed under the guidance of their mentor. Completion of the CITI Training (Collaborative
Institutional Training Initiative), create an abstract, complete an oral presentation which will be
revised and presented at the Summer Research Symposium in early August. Participate in all
evaluation activities (Focus Groups, Surveys, etc.) Develop instructional materials based upon their
research experience and make those materials available to the HERO-T program. Participate as
needed in the HERO-High School Scholars Program. Attend other CoHD sponsored events as their
research schedule permits.
Required Qualifications:
• Valid Virginia credentials with a minimum of three years recent teaching experience.
• Majority of teaching assignments must be in one of the following areas: Biology, Chemistry,
Physics or Earth Science.
• Tenured teacher in his/her school division.
• Must work in high-poverty/diverse setting.
• Must teach in a Virginia Region 1 School Division
