Job Summary
The Computed Tomography engineering team seeks a highly motivated Mechanical Lab Technician to support laboratory operations, manage calibrated assets, and assist in testing, fabrication, and assembly of engineering design fixtures and prototypes. This role emphasizes collaboration with mechanical engineers to ensure functional test setups, precise documentation, and active feedback on designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Calibration Asset Management:
- Monitor calibration due dates, submit assets for calibration timely, and maintain updated statuses in the site s online calibration system.
- Investigate and document Out of Tolerance Notifications, defects, or overdue calibrations.
- Manage lifecycle changes for assets by setting up new ones or retiring old ones.
- Engineering Investigations:
- Modify CT gantries, install components, and create test setups to support Installed Base engineering investigations.
- Prototype Fabrication:
- Build prototype parts and test fixturing in the mechanical lab to support engineering activities.
- Lab Organization:
- Maintain lab organization, including tool management, cleanliness, and ensuring adherence to safety and EHS initiatives.
- Test Setup & Documentation:
- Assist in setting up functional and reliability tests for prototype components.
- Document test results and collaborate with mechanical engineers for review and analysis.
- Design Collaboration:
- Provide constructive feedback to mechanical engineers on designs, focusing on Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
Tools/Technologies
- Mechanical Lab Tools: Expertise in operating waterjet, CNC and manual mills, lathe, sheet metal brake, and mechanical hand tools.
- Calibration Management: Familiarity with calibration workflows in regulated industries.
- Engineering Drawings: Ability to interpret part and assembly drawings, and proficiency with GD&T
- Documentation: Skilled in maintaining detailed records and reports for testing and investigations.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Associate's degree in mechanical engineering technology or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical lab environments, including hands-on testing, calibration management, and prototype fabrication.
- Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
