What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mosquito Control Specialist position at VDCI?
About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mosquito Control Specialist to join our team at VDCI. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in protecting public health by controlling mosquito populations and preventing the spread of diseases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections of control zones to identify potential mosquito breeding habitats and detect mosquito larvae
- Assess each inspection site and implement effective control techniques, such as source reduction, biological control, and chemical control
- Routinely inspect and maintain monitoring devices for accessing mosquito populations
- Accurately record all findings and control activities on log sheets and GPS units, and enter data into VDCI's database as required
- Ensure thorough familiarity with applicable chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and handle/apply chemicals according to label specifications
- Know and follow proper safety and spill procedures at all times, and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regularly
- Communicate respectfully, honestly, and knowledgeably to residents during service request inspections, routine larvicide activities, or other public relations activities
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently, mix pesticides, and fill sprayers accurately as needed, following all required safety precautions
About You: To be successful in this role, you must have a strong background in environmental health, pest management, or a related field, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. You should also be physically fit, able to lift and carry heavy equipment, and work comfortably in outdoor environments with varying weather conditions.
