VECA Professional Services has an opening for a Laboratory Technician for an Anacortes, WA refinery location.
- Full Time / Long Term - Starting ASAP
- 7 on 7 off schedule shift, rotating days and nights. A typical work week is Friday through Thursday, including holidays.

- BS Degree in Chemistry preferred.
- Refinery Experience preferred.

Laboratory Technician
Under moderate supervision, responsible for finished product quality control and specification compliance testing. Manages and communicates test data, verifies test equipment, executes various proficiency sample testing programs, and conducts routine laboratory tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts routine product quality control and product or specification compliance testing
- Enters and maintains lab results in proper databases and written records, and communicates results to assigned area’s management and other personnel to permit formulation adjustment where needed
- Keeps work area clean and organized
- Verifies and maintains testing instruments and ancillary test equipment
- Executes assigned area’s required Health Safety & Environmental programs and initiatives as directed
- Conducts proficiency sample testing
- Manages expendable laboratory supplies.
May include some or all the following:
- Executes requirements of Quality Manual and related quality systems
- Provide environmental regulatory and compliance support
- Perform basic routine instrument maintenance and calibration
- Runs SQC on test equipment, plot test results, report any out-of-control situations, and document action taken
- Communicate with operations on off-spec results or atypical samples
- Collects and distributes samples to customers and others
- Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
Required Skills:
- Basic mechanical ability and understanding of operational principles of assigned area’s testing instruments.
- Basic ability to perform routine tests daily.
- Ability to effectively communication with others, both written and verbal communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to complete all required classroom and CBT training.
- Depending on location, exhibit average or better Z-scores on proficiency testing programs, or ability to move drums of product and 150# gas cylinders.
- Depending on location, elementary algebra and proficiency with spreadsheet and word-processing software applications.
- Basic reading and writing skills, ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of 6 months of related material testing experience is required.
- 1 year of Lab or equivalent work experience, depending on location is required.
- High School Degree is required. Associate’s / Bachelor's Degree preferred in Chemistry.
- TWIC card, passed drug test and background check are required.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Industry Leading Compensation: $32/hr starting wage; depending on experience.
