Responsibilities :
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all bakery and packaging equipment are operating efficiently, minimizing downtime, and maintaining high standards of food safety and production quality. The ideal candidate will have experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preventive maintenance, and a solid understanding of bakery production processes and packaging machinery, including freezers, ovens, mixers, conveyors, depositors, pick-and-place systems, wrappers, and packers by performing the following :
Maintenance Planning & Execution :
Lead, manage, and oversee all maintenance activities for bakery production lines and packaging equipment, ensuring that machinery such as freezers, ovens, mixers, conveyors, depositors, pick-and-place systems, wrappers, and packers are operating at peak performance. Develop and execute maintenance schedules to maximize uptime and minimize disruptions. Preventive Maintenance Program :
Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive preventive maintenance program that maximizes equipment reliability, specifically for bakery ovens, mixers, conveyors, freezers, depositors, pick-and-place systems, and packaging machinery (fillers, wrappers, case packers). Ensure that all equipment is regularly inspected and serviced to prevent unexpected breakdowns. CMMS Management :
Utilize and manage a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) [overseeing a maintenance planner / scheduler] to track work orders, schedule preventive maintenance, and analyze equipment performance data. Leverage this data to make informed decisions that enhance equipment reliability and prevent costly downtime. Project Management & Growth Initiatives :
Plan, manage, and execute growth projects, such as new equipment installations (e.g., ovens, depositors, packaging systems), capacity expansions, and facility improvements. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project completion within budget, on time, and in compliance with food safety regulations. Team Leadership & Training :
Supervise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to the maintenance team, ensuring they are well-trained in bakery equipment, packaging systems, and troubleshooting procedures for complex machinery like mixers, conveyors, pick-and-place systems, and wrappers. Foster a team-oriented, collaborative, and safe working environment. Troubleshooting & Repairs :
Oversee the troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of bakery production equipment and packaging systems, including ovens, mixers, conveyors, depositors, pick-and-place systems, wrappers, and automated packers, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient restoration of operations. Inventory Management :
Manage and optimize the inventory of spare parts for bakery production and packaging equipment, including critical components for freezers, ovens, mixers, conveyors, depositors, pick-and-place systems, and packaging machinery. Ensure critical parts are always in stock and establish relationships with suppliers to ensure timely and cost- effective procurement. Compliance & Safety :
Ensure that all maintenance operations are in compliance with regulatory, health, safety, and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP). Lead initiatives to maintain a safe work environment and implement maintenance practices that align with industry standards. Budget Management :
Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations while minimizing expenses. Monitor and report on financial performance and work to reduce unnecessary costs without compromising on equipment reliability and safety. Continuous Improvement :
Identify opportunities for improving operational efficiency, reducing downtime, and enhancing equipment effectiveness. Lead continuous improvement initiatives by implementing best practices and leveraging data-driven insights to optimize both production and packaging processes.
Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance management role, ideally, with at least 3 years in a bakery or food manufacturing environment, specifically with packaging equipment.
Strong experience with CMMS software.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, and use of intranet and internet.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Extensive knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for bakery production equipment (ovens, mixers, conveyors, freezers, depositors) and packaging machinery (filler systems, wrappers, case packers, pick-and-place systems).
Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing bakery and packaging systems.
Solid understanding of food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, GMP) and their application in a bakery environment.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
