About the Position
The Outreach Specialist will play a key role in engaging with communities of color to facilitate presentations, gather data, and build connections. This position involves coordinating listening groups, administering written surveys, and collaborating with interpreters when necessary to ensure clear communication. As a part-time, grant-funded role, the Outreach Specialist will contribute to fostering trust and understanding between the organization and diverse communities. This is a part-time, grant-funded role, renewable annually based on funding availability, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for community events.
Key Responsibilities
Outreach and Community Engagement
- Collaborate with the project team to align outreach activities
- Plan and facilitate listening groups and presentations in diverse communities
- Gather qualitative input on pedestrian and traffic safety from communities
- Build trusting relationships with local leaders, organizations, and residents
- Disseminate and collect surveys to gather data from residents
- Accurately document insights, themes, and feedback from listening groups
- Work alongside interpreters for culturally relevant data collection strategies
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in outreach with diverse communities
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working on issues of safety and transportation, a plus
- Proficient technical skills with Microsoft Office, Asana and SurveyMonkey
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for travel in Chicago and to Peoria and Springfield, IL (compensated at federal rates)
- Fluency in English required; conversational or fluent Spanish is a plus
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
Employment & Working Conditions
- Part-time, Hourly $28 per hour, commensurate with experience.
- Work will take place in Chicago and Peoria/Springfield, IL
- Work Schedule: Standard 8-hour shift, 9am to 5pm and occasional evenings and weekend hours as needed
