What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Athletic Trainer (AHL) position at Vegas Golden Knights?

Mandate:
The Head Athletic Tainer is responsible for providing optimal health care services in support of Vegas Golden Knights contracted players.  The services provided will be at the forefront of sports medicine industry standards in the development and delivery of care, prevention, rehabilitation and health care administration services. This role will uphold the unifying principles and standards of the department and provide medical services that are player centered in construct and multidisciplinary in execution.  This Head Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Director of Sports Performance and Head Athletic Trainer of the NHL team.  This position is expected to nurture a close operational relationship with the coaching staff as well as with all internal and external partners.


Professional Practice Responsibilities
  • Manage care, prevention, rehabilitation, and health care administration services and ensure services are being delivered at the highest possible standard of care, while relevant to the functional demand of the players, at all training sessions, practices and NHL games.
  • Ensure current professional practice, research, and evidence are integrated into the interventions related to player healthcare or performance management.
  • Foster proactive and collaborative work with other performance team members (team physicians, performance coaches, nutritionists, mental skills coaches, massage therapists) to achieve optimal health, well being, and performance of the players; including but not limited injury prevention, rehabilitation, return to play activities, recovery, and performance enhancement.
  • Create processes and deliver tangible and timely information to key stakeholders related to athlete health status, performance readiness, and physical capacities.
  • Ensure that emergency response, planning and preparedness is at the highest possible state of readiness, with regards to training and  documentation, and coordinate close interactions with all members of the emergency support team.
  • Deploy and audit defensible documentation practices in regards to medical service delivery and communications. 
  • Promote a safety conscious and hygienic environment in the daily practice of all services provided.
  • Maintain daily communication, and established reporting parameters, with the performance team members and the coaching staff as directed.
  • Advise on annual budgetary matters related to equipment and supplies.
  • Nurture risk management practices by maintaining accurate and timely records related to services delivered.
  • Assist with monitoring and coordinating equipment maintenance. 
  • Oversee the collection, validation, analysis and interpretation of healthcare data as directed.
  • Manage workers compensation claims associated with player injury as directed.
  • Uphold and audit compliance with all NHL guidelines associated with services supported or delivered.
  • Coordinate and assist player accompaniment to medical appointments as required.
  • Inventory, audit and manage medical supplies and medications per Club and AHL guidelines.
  • Ensure that all arrangements and agreements made between the Golden Knights organization and other medical authorities and institutions are being respected in an ethical and professional manner. 
  • Oversee the department's daily operational needs and ensure that they are being met with the highest possible standard of professionalism, care and ethics.
  • Monitor and identify specific injury trends for in depth analysis and recommend interventions as indicated. 
  • Deliver other duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • University-degree and valid license in Athletic Therapy or Athletic Training (Master’s degree preferred); 
  • Valid BLS certification (additional emergency medical training and certifications preferred);
  • Sports performance related training and certifications preferred (e.g. CSCS, PES, CES);
  • 3 years or more relevant post license work experience;
  • Ability to work in team environment with strong leadership experience is essential;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • High availability to travel; 
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written; 
  • Knowledge of the electronic medical records systems;
