Velocity Specialty Insurance Company (“Velocity Specialty”) is an AM Best (A-) rated E&S Carrier writing middle market and small to medium business risks in catastrophe-exposed areas through brokers, agents, and Velocity Risk Underwriters, LLC (“Velocity Risk”). Velocity Risk also acts as the third-party claim's administrator for Velocity Specialty and delegates that claims authority to Velocity Claims, LLC (“Velocity Claims”), which provides claims management services to Velocity Risk.

Who You Are

As the Vice President of Finance & Accounting, you will play a critical role in optimizing the financial health of Velocity Specialty Insurance, reporting directly to the CEO. You will oversee all aspects of financial operations, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, driving profitability, and managing financial risk. Your leadership will ensure our financial processes and strategies are innovative, efficient, and aligned with Velocity Specialty’s growth objectives. This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing finance team while playing a key role in strategic decision-making.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities :

  • Strategic Financial Leadership : Develop and execute financial strategies that drive growth, profitability, and long-term success.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis : Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes to ensure alignment with corporate goals. Provide actionable insights to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance : Oversee accurate and timely preparation of financial statements both month-end and quarterly, including GAAP and STAT reporting for Velocity Specialty Insurance, Velocity Insurance Holdings, and consolidated entities. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Cash Flow & Treasury Management : Monitor and manage cash flow, including forecasting and providing ongoing insights into the company’s financial position. Collaborate with treasury teams on investment strategies and liquidity management.
  • Team Leadership & Developmen t : Mentor, coach, and build a high-performance finance and accounting team. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Process Optimization & Efficiency : Continuously evaluate and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and effectiveness across finance functions.
  • Tax Strategy & Compliance : Work closely with public accounting firms and other advisors to ensure federal and state compliance, including effective tax strategy integration into corporate decisions.
  • Executive Collaboration : Provide financial guidance to the executive team, supporting decision-making and resource allocation. Serve as a key advisor on financial matters.

What You'll Need

Qualifications :

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA preferred.
  • Experience : Minimum of 7 years in progressive financial leadership roles within the insurance industry, with at least 5 years of experience in a carrier environment.
  • Expertise : Expertise in GAAP and STAT financial reporting, reinsurance accounting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), cash flow management, and budgeting / forecasting processes.
  • Leadership : Strong track record of managing and developing teams, successfully driving performance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Analytical & Technical Skills : Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, analysis, and the use of Excel. Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements specific to the insurance industry.
  • Project Management : Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively, ensuring timely completion and proactive communication of progress and results.
