JOB SUMMARY:
The Financial Controller will play a critical role in the company responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, cost negotiations, and compliance activities. This position requires a hands-on leader with exceptional financial acumen, strategic thinking, and the ability to present complex financial information. Player Coach role with the ability to identify when to scale and grow the Finance department and hire key roles to support the profitability and financial health of the business. This role reports directly to the CEO and will collaborate with several department leaders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As the first hired financial controller of the company, you’ll be responsible for building out robust financial processes to support the continued growth of the business in both its ecommerce and wholesale divisions
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
- Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Develop and maintain proper bookkeeping, followed by the hiring and training of supporting staff for administrative workflows
- Lead the development and management of the annual budgeting and forecasting process
- Monitor and report on financial performance, analyzing variances and trends, and providing actionable insights to senior management and department leaders (i.e. Sales, Marketing, Product, etc.)
- Identify cost savings opportunities amongst departments, and help negotiate new prices and terms with operational leaders within the organization
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls and financial policies
- Coordinate and oversee quarterly, federal and state tax filings, in addition to potential external audits, with responses to auditor inquiries
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial and tax regulations
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development - When the time comes to scale and hire for this department.
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives and strategic initiatives
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, specifically for a consumer goods company selling online and in retail via wholesale
- Proven track record of successfully managing financial operations and driving process improvements for a business
- In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial regulations
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP - or other ERP systems XORO a plus) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities
- US Retail Accounting and Accrual based accounting methods a MUST
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred, but not required
- Experience with international accounting, especially foreign exchange rate, a PLUS for future business expansion plans.
