THE PROGRAM:
The Adolescent Family Life Program (AFLP) is a case management program that is designed to support and connect expectant and/or parenting youth to various services (such as medical care, dental care and community services). The Adolescent Family Life Program (AFLP) serves young people up to 21 years of age who are expectant and/or parents, and participants can also include partners in pregnancy and/or parenting. AFLP services are provided by County health organizations, County community organizations, and/or hospitals.
THE POSITION:
Under close supervision and in a trainee capacity, the AFLP Youth Advisor will work 10 hours a week providing support to AFLP staff and clients with a wide variety of technical and professional duties and services. The Youth Advisor will participate in outreach and recruitment activities with expectant and parenting youth, making referrals to community resources. They will also provide input in local and State planning, decision-making, and implementation of AFLP program goals. Additionally, they will assist in communicating, disseminating information to AFLP clients and the general public in alignment with program objectives.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate will be empathetic and compassionate when working with clients from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They can easily establish rapport with young individuals, allowing them to understand and relate to the challenges faced by AFLP youth, fostering a supportive environment. Additionally, they should possess excellent organizational and problem solving-skills to provide valuable input during program meetings.

Technical Specialist I - Public Health is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Meet regularly with AFLP staff and clients;
- Assists with identifying and addressing the challenges and needs of AFLP youth;
- Participates in team huddles and meetings from community agencies;
- Provides input in the implementation of AFLP program goals to assist in identifying challenges;
- Provides input and participates in program process improvements;
- Attends California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Maternal Child Adolescent Health (MCAH) webinars and required trainings;
- Assists in outreach activities to provide information on health-related topics and services that targets AFLP youths and other available youth engagement activities;
- Participates in community collaborative efforts and networks with other agencies;
- Assists in developing program materials to individuals and their families, community agencies, and health care providers;
- Assists AFLP PYD case managers as needed to provide appropriate services to meet client needs;
- Assist with referring patients to programs/services (such as MediCal);
- Educates and explains the program to individuals and groups within the community;
- May drive County vehicles to pick up or deliver clients or supplies;
- May operate business or office machines; and
- Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge and abilities.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Able and willing to work Extra-Help (10 hours a week)
- Current participant or graduate of Adolescent Family Life Program or CalLearn Program, or any other social services home visitation program;
- Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a California Driver's License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Some knowledge of:
- techniques required for gathering, evaluating, and providing information;
- identifying and providing feedback on the challenges and needs of the clientele served;
- Microsoft Office computer programs;
Ability to:
- follow written and oral instructions; read and understand forms, documents and letters;
- collect and evaluate information and give reasonable program recommendations;
- communicate effectively with other employees, clients, the general public or other agency personnel from diverse cultural, social and economic backgrounds;

APPLICATION EVALUATION – 100%: An application evaluation will be conducted to determine whether each applicant possesses the required licensure and experience for this recruitment. A score of 70 will be assigned to each applicant meeting the stated requirements. Such score will be considered as the final score for placement on the eligible list.
Applicants successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
