Surface Prep Technician / Needle Gun Operator

Job Summary:

Venture Dynamics is actively seeking skilled and motivated Surface Prep Technicians to support maintenance and repair operations on U.S. Navy ships. This position requires proficiency in operating power tools, including needle guns, grinders, drills and sanders to prepare ship surfaces by removing paint, rust, and other contaminants in accordance with specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate grinders, needle guns, and other power tools to remove paint, rust, and scale.
• Prepare metal surfaces through scraping, sanding, and needle gunning as required.
• Work efficiently in confined spaces, on scaffolding, and in varying weather conditions.
• Follow safety procedures and wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times.
• Adhere to project deadlines while ensuring high-quality workmanship.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

• Experience working on ships or in a shipyard environment is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with surface preparation techniques and power tools.
• Ability to interpret and follow work specifications.

Requirements:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible for a DBIDS badge for Navy base access.
• Ability to pass a drug and background screening.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site.
• Physically capable of performing tasks including:
  • Standing, walking, and climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in tight/confined spaces.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and high-noise environments (>110 dB).
