Marine Rigger – Ship Repair and Maintenance
We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Rigger with specialized experience in ship repair and maintenance, including both commercial and Navy vessels. As a Marine Rigger, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient movement of heavy machinery, equipment, and structural components aboard ships. Your expertise will ensure that all rigging tasks are performed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and precision.
Key Responsibilities:
Shipboard Rigging: Perform complex rigging tasks aboard commercial and Navy ships, including the removal, installation, and repositioning of heavy machinery, equipment, and structural parts, such as pumps, valves, motors, and electronic equipment.
Rigging Gear Selection: Select appropriate rigging equipment based on load weight, distribution, hoisting machinery availability, and potential obstacles, ensuring all gear is correctly rigged for maximum safety and efficiency.
Operation Support: Collaborate with crane operators and other equipment operators to signal and guide load movements, ensuring safe and precise positioning.
Inspection and Safety Compliance: Inspect rigging gear regularly to meet OSHA standards and shipyard safety regulations. Ensure compliance with all safety protocols to prevent accidents or equipment failure.
Shipboard Experience: Utilize advanced rigging techniques for maneuvering heavy equipment through narrow openings, using jacks, chain falls, come-alongs, and rollers.
Collaborative Work: Assist in troubleshooting and resolving challenges related to rigging operations, maintaining effective communication with supervisors and other team members.
Required Skills & Experience:
5 Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in shipboard rigging or as a Hook Tender, with a focus on ship repair and maintenance for both commercial and Navy vessels.
Shipboard Equipment Handling: Proven experience with the removal and installation of heavy machinery and equipment aboard ships, including but not limited to pumps, valves, motors, and electronics.
Safety Knowledge: Thorough understanding and adherence to safety rules, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
Tool Proficiency: Proficient in the safe and efficient use of both hand tools and power tools in the rigging process.
Physical Requirements:
Physical Capability: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting 50 lbs frequently, standing, and working with arms extended at shoulder height.
Confined Spaces & Heights: Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights, with the ability to climb ladders and staircases.
Drug & Alcohol Free: Must pass a comprehensive drug and alcohol screening as well as a background check.
Additional Requirements:
Availability: Must be available to work nights, weekends, and occasional overtime based on project needs.
Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site.
U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen to comply with security clearance and DBIDS badge requirements.
Eligibility for Security Badge: Must be eligible to obtain a DBIDS badge for access to Navy and commercial shipyards.
