POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director of HR & Compliance will play a crucial role in ensuring the organization maintains the highest standards of compliance with all relevant labor laws, regulations, and industry-specific requirements. This position will support 1,700 employees and will be responsible for oversight of all HR functions including: benefits, compensation, performance management, employee relations, policy management and overall HR planning functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION
- Leads and manages the staff of the human resource department, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Responsible for management of recruiting and onboarding and related compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures organization's compliance.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas of potential non-compliance and develop action plans to address any issues.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure consistent communication and understanding of HR and compliance requirements.
- Foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, and equity within the organization while upholding our core values.
- Manage employee relations matters, including investigations and conflict resolution, while ensuring fairness and adherence to company policies.
- Lead the organization’s annual review, merit process and succession planning process.
- Consults with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the COO, on personnel matters.
- Works directly with department managers to assist and provide coaching on personnel matters.
- Oversees and Maintains the HRIS system for efficiency and accuracy of the organization's personnel information needs.
- Participates on committees and special projects and seeks additional responsibilities.
- Develop and deliver compliance training programs to educate employees and management on relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Prepare and submit required compliance reports to regulatory agencies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation related to HR and compliance activities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR and compliance experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree.
- SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential.
REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.)
- Solid knowledge and experience in HR Generalist functions, including: benefits administration, FLSA, employee relations, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other federal and state laws and HR practices.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional leadership and team management abilities.
- Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer programs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective compliance programs.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
- Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) and compliance (e.g., CCEP) is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. This role will work in and be exposed to various work environments such as warehouse and dock.
