Overview
The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including financial reporting, general ledger, month-end and year-end closing, and the external audit. This role involves direct interaction with business partners, senior management, and external auditors, and plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the company's financial statements.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management: Lead the accounting team, including hiring, training, and mentoring staff. Set performance expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Accounting Operations: Manage the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.
- Audit & External Relations: Coordinate and manage external audit activities, working closely with auditors to address queries and resolve issues. Oversee the internal controls process and ensure that the company meets all audit and compliance requirements.
- Technical Accounting: Stay up to date on new accounting standards, emerging regulations. Lead efforts to adopt new accounting standards and implement accounting system changes as needed.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including FP&A, tax, treasury, and legal, to support business operations and provide financial guidance on strategic initiatives.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and improve accounting processes, workflows, and systems to drive efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in the accounting department.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, CPA required.
- Experience: At least 15 years of progressive accounting experience, including 10 years in a leadership role, preferably in a public company environment.
- Technical Skills: Expert knowledge of US GAAP and SOX compliance.
- ERP Skills: Experience with ERP implementations desirable.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage and motivate a team, with experience in developing talent and fostering a high-performance culture.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with a keen attention to detail.
Hybrid, 2 days a week in office
