Position Summary
VMG is seeking a qualified Catholic Religious Education (RE) Coordinator to support the Maxwell Air Force Base Chapel community. The RE Coordinator will plan, implement, and oversee a comprehensive Catholic religious education program from preschool through adult. The role includes curriculum coordination, volunteer management, sacramental preparation, and event planning in accordance with Air Force Chaplain Corps standards.
This is a part-time, contracted position requiring at least 20 hours per week, including Sunday mornings and weekday office hours coordinated with the Catholic Chaplain. Additional hours may be required during high-demand seasons such as Christmas, Easter, and Vacation Bible School.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Teaching
- Plan and implement Catholic RE programs including Sunday School, sacramental prep, adult faith formation, weekly Bible studies, and Vacation Bible School.
- Coordinate all RE events and submit annual RE calendar and facility use forms.
- Recommend and maintain approved RE curriculum consistent with Catholic teaching and chapel mission.
- Develop lesson plans using Microsoft Office software and distribute to volunteers in advance.
Volunteer and Community Engagement
- Recruit, train, and supervise RE volunteers in compliance with DAFI 52-101 and child safety policies.
- Serve as Line-of-Sight Supervisor for all youth activities.
- Attend Parish Advisory Council meetings and collaborate with chapel staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate with Catholic Director of Music Ministries during seasonal events.
Program Administration
- Maintain classrooms and religious education materials.
- Draft and submit after-action reports and activity summaries for major RE programs and liturgical events.
- Track budget needs, prepare RE budget proposals, and coordinate approved purchases.
- Publicize RE events and assist with communication through chapel channels.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Catholic religious education.
- Demonstrated understanding of Catholic doctrine and familiarity with military chapel environments.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain a professional, pastoral demeanor.
- Must pass a Criminal History Background Check and Installation Records Check (IRC) in accordance with DoDI 1402.5.
- Must be fluent in English and able to prepare and present instructional materials.
Work Schedule and Compensation
- Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week (Sunday mornings weekday hours).
- Additional hours required during Christmas, Easter, and Vacation Bible School.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
