Position Summary
VMG is seeking a Roman Catholic Priest to provide liturgical and pastoral ministry to Catholic military and civilian communities at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH). The Priest will serve two chapel centers: Pearl Harbor Memorial Chapel (PHMC) and Hickam Chapel Center. This role includes sacramental responsibilities, weekday and weekend Masses, confession, counseling, and faith formation activities.
This is a contracted position scheduled to deliver up to 856 hours of religious services annually in coordination with the JBPHH Command Chaplain. This role is vital to the continuity of Catholic worship and pastoral care for more than 30,000 military-affiliated personnel and families.
Key Responsibilities:
Liturgical Services
- Conduct weekday Mass (5 per week) and weekend Mass (Saturday evening and Sunday morning).
- Celebrate Holy Days of Obligation, Advent and Lenten Penance Services, 1st Communion, Baptisms, Weddings, Anointing of the Sick, and Funerals.
- Hear confessions and offer spiritual counseling during scheduled pastoral hours.
- Coordinate with the Command Chaplain for occasional off-site services.
Pastoral Care & Administration
- Provide a minimum of 8 in-office pastoral hours per week for spiritual guidance, crisis support, and religious counseling.
- Participate in monthly performance meetings with the Command Chaplain.
- Collaborate with Chapel staff to plan events and manage sacramental records in accordance with AMS guidance.
Auxiliary & Contingency Support
- Be available to fill in when active-duty military chaplains are on TDY, leave, or unavailable due to health or operational needs.
- Maintain flexibility to adjust schedule according to mission needs.
Compliance and Conduct
- Comply with the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) policies and ecclesiastical endorsement standards.
- Maintain respectful, professional, and visible identification as a contract employee.
- Adhere to JBPHH dress code, DBIDS base access protocols, and all Federal and Navy installation conduct policies.
Qualifications
Ecclesiastical & Liturgical
- Must be a validly ordained Roman Catholic Priest in good standing.
- Must possess an ecclesiastical endorsement from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).
- Must not receive or request compensation (stipends or honoraria) for sacraments; gifts must be deposited into Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF).
Professional & Administrative
- Minimum 3 years of recent pastoral or liturgical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to minister in a military or multicultural setting.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident and eligible for JBPHH base access.
Work Schedule and Location
- Weekday duties between 0730 and 1600, Monday–Friday.
- Weekend duties: Saturday 1615–1800 and Sunday 0730–1300.

- Pearl Harbor Memorial Chapel (PHMC), Building 1600
- Hickam Chapel Center, Building 1750, Kuntz Avenue
Compensation
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
