What are the responsibilities and job description for the Victim/Witness Advocate - Grant Funded position at Vermilion County State's Attorney's Office?
VERMILION COUNTY STATE'S ATTORNEYS OFFICE -- VICTIM/WITNESS ADVOCATE
ILLUSTRATIONS OF WORK DUTIES:
- Provide direct services; crisis intervention, information/referral, and advocacy, to victims and/or witnesses of crime.
- Felony and Misdemeanor cases with emphasis on domestic violence, violations of orders of protection, crimes against children, crimes against the elderly, sexual abuse, and battery.
- Travel will be required for transport of victims and/or witnesses occasionally.
- Inform crime victims and witnesses of their rights pursuant to statute.
- Assist in preparing all grant/programmatic services, funding applications, and fiscal reports required by funding agencies on a quarterly and yearly basis.
- Assist crime victims with victim compensation pursuant to 740 ILCS 45/6.1 through the Attorney General’s Office.
- Assist crime victims with court process and victim impact statements for purposes of court.
- Assist in public education and fund raising efforts.
- Assist with general office duties and other related duties as assigned by the State's Attorney.

Requires ability to manage, organize, and prioritize work. Requires ability to use a computer with Microsoft Word and ability to learn case management software used in State's Attorneys Office. Prefer knowledge of the criminal justice system and a sensitivity of victims
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associates degree, high school diploma, or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly required to talk or hear.
