Groundskeeper

Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Groundskeeper to join the Veronét Vineyards team. This role is essential to maintaining the pristine beauty and functionality of our estate and vineyard property, ensuring a top-tier customer experience for visitors. The Groundskeeper will be responsible for a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks, including landscaping, seasonal upkeep, and support for vineyard operations. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a passion for creating an exceptional environment at one of North Carolina’s premier wineries. The Groundskeeper will play a key role in keeping the grounds in immaculate condition year-round, from regular lawn care and seasonal tasks to maintaining fences, trails, and event areas. This individual will work closely with the Operations Manager and other team members, providing essential support for the vineyard's daily operations, events, and ongoing projects. Standard schedule of Tuesday - Saturday, with additional hours or schedule changes required during periods of special vineyard projects, harvest, special events, and peak season.

Job Responsibilities:

• Maintain and enhance the estate’s outdoor areas by mowing, trimming, and edging lawns, pruning trees and shrubs, weeding, and maintaining mulch beds.
• Maintain the high standards of the Veronét Vineyards’ Customer Experience by regularly cleaning and clearing debris, leaves, and litter to keep the grounds looking immaculate.
• Ensure pathways, parking lots, and visitor areas are tidy and well-maintained, including preparations for ice/snow/inclement weather.
• Maintain and care for landscaping/farm tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
• Assist with tasks related to each season, such as winterizing, seeding, aerating, fertilizing, planting, setting up outdoor events, etc.
• Follow safety guidelines and maintain a safe working environment at all times. Report any hazards or issues to the Operations Manager.
• Maintenance and upkeep of fences, gates, roads, trails, exterior lighting, exterior decor.
• Ad hoc repairs of exterior fixtures.
• Assist in seasonal vineyard tasks as needed, including installing and maintaining irrigation systems, sprays, pruning, planting, and assisting with harvest.
• Maintain technical competency and participate in continuing education pertaining to the role.
• Work closely with the Operations Manager, team members, and other departments to support viticulture, facilities, events and operations.
• Assist with special projects as needed.
• Assist with tasting room operations and events as needed.
• Additional duties, as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or similar outdoor maintenance work.
• Knowledge of landscaping techniques, irrigation systems, and plant care.
• Physically fit and capable of lifting, bending, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to be insured on company vehicles.
• Experience using farm and landscaping equipment including skid steer, tractor, zero turn mower, backpack sprayer, tractor mounted sprayer, etc. required.
• Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and use PPE appropriately during spraying.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

• Over 75% of work conducted outdoor environment with direct sunlight and no shade.
• Regular working schedule may include some weekends and holidays.
• Long or irregular hours during peak vineyard seasons, harvest, or special events.
• Standing for long periods of time (6-8 hours per day).
• Heavy physical work: planting, pruning, earth moving, walking through 7 acres of vines daily, etc.
• Handling of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.
• Ability to lift at least 60 lbs.

Salary: Hourly, DOE.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
