POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the general direction of the Supervisor, System Operations, the System Operator position develops and maintains responsibility for all functions in the System Operations Office. This position maintains the capability to operate the Versant Power electrical system.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains an operating knowledge of and operates the Versant Power transmission and distribution systems in a safe, stable and reliable manner.
- Maintains an operational knowledge of current ISO-NE, Maine/LCC, and Versant Power operating procedures.
- Prepares operating reports in accordance with established FERC, NERC, ISO-NE, reporting requirements.
- Recognizes and corrects system problems created by unscheduled events such as weather, mechanical failure, electrical failure, etc.
- Assists with routine outage planning.

Prepares, reviews, & approves Work Request applications including those associated with BES (Bulk Electric System)
facilities within Versant Power’s service territory. - Monitors and ensures that Company resources are being used efficiently and effectively.
- Operates within FERC order 888 & 889 guidelines.
- Monitors OASIS tags (transmission reservation requests) and NERC ETAG (source to destination tagging system).
- Coordinates contact between ISO-NE, and Versant Power’s service territory generating assets.
- Operates in accordance with ISO-NE and NMISA Wholesale Energy Market Rules.

Maintains communications with System Operation Departments of other utilities, paper mills, and other large power
users for the proper operations information. - Maintains a thorough knowledge of all Company safety regulations. Follows all safety regulations specific to the system operations function.
- Maintains the ability to operate requisite computer systems, including SCADA and GIS/Power On.
- Dispatches outage calls during non-business hours. On occasion, may dispatch outage calls during regular business hours.
- Prepares Spill Reports, Outage Records, Call Out Reports and Dig Safe Permits.
- Works in accordance with the documented environmental procedures, instructions, and specific responsibilities as defined in individual procedures and instructions. Reports problems or deviations associated with environmental issues and the Environmental Management System (EMS) to the Environmental Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) Year Associate's Degree in Electrical Power from an accredited trade school or equivalent education and experience is required.
- Two years of experience in a technical field is required.
- Excellent mathematical, communication, and organizational skills required.
- Position requires identity verification and seven-year criminal background check with update at least every seven years pursuant to NERC standards.
SELECTION:
Bargaining Unit employees who have at least six (6) months of direct experience in Versant Power System Operations (including SO Project Term experience) shall be considered "pre-qualified" for future System Operator postings. In the event "pre-qualified" bargaining unit employees apply for a SO posting, the most senior "pre-qualified" applicant (as determined by continuous bargaining unit seniority), shall be selected ahead of any more senior non-pre-qualified bargaining unit employees. In the event no "pre-qualified" bargaining unit employees apply, selection shall be pursuant to Article XXI, Section 2b.

- Position is primarily sedentary with intermittent standing and walking.

WORKING SCHEDULE:
Rotating shift work in accordance with established System Operations schedule.

Rate of pay is based on Appendix A of the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
