Role & Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis.
- Oversee property-level financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
- Manage cash flow to support operational needs, capital projects, and debt obligations.
- Implement and maintain financial dashboards to provide real-time insights to leadership.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with property managers and leadership.
- Develop rolling forecasts and scenario models to guide strategic decision-making.
- Monitor budget-to-actual variances for both operating expenses and capital expenditures.
- Establish and oversee a robust vendor management program.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable and receivable.
- Implement internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Partner with tax advisors to ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Optimize cash management, payroll processing, and quarterly/yearly reporting.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Partner with property management teams to streamline financial operations.
- Serve as a liaison between leadership, tax preparers, and external financial partners.
- Maximize the use of financial software (e.g., AppFolio and integrations) to enhance efficiency.
- Standardize processes through automation and AI tools to drive scalability.
- Develop "Run Books" and SOPs to ensure seamless financial operations.
- Controller & Audit Skills – Strong background in financial reporting, internal controls, and audit readiness. Ability to clean up and streamline financial processes.
- FP&A Expertise – Ability to forecast, analyze trends, and create financial models that help drive strategic decision-making.
- Program Builder – Experience building financial programs, processes, or departments from scratch, preferably in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
- "Run Book" Concept Familiarity – Ability to develop standardized financial and operational processes to ensure smooth execution across multiple properties and projects.
- Military Background (a Plus) – Disciplined, process-oriented professionals from military backgrounds tend to thrive in our structured yet agile approach.
- Big 4 or Tier 2 Experience (a Plus) – Experience at a top accounting/consulting firm brings strong foundational knowledge in accounting, financial strategy, and controls.
- Private Equity / Portfolio Operations Experience – Understanding of financial management within PE-backed companies, particularly in real estate or operational-heavy businesses.
- Advanced Spreadsheet & Google Sheets Skills – Strong financial modeling, analysis, and automation capabilities are a must.
- AI & Automation Skills (Preference) – Familiarity with AI tools, automation, and finance-related efficiencies through AI is a strong advantage.
- Side Hustle Encouraged – We like people who take initiative, solve problems creatively, and have an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Asset Management Experience (a Plus) – Understanding of property performance, budgeting, and financial oversight within real estate is valuable.
