POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Staff Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for a variety of accounting activities including account analysis and month-end close of both Vertex Education and Vertex's client, Legacy Traditional Schools. The Staff Accountant will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be detail-oriented.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent’s performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent’s immediate supervisor or manager.
- Review of daily cash reconciliations and assistance with cash-flow monitoring, including any necessary transfers (wire, ACH, etc.).
- Daily, weekly, monthly journal entries, program allocations etc.
- Assist with semi-monthly bond project fund request and reconciliations.
- Responsible for month-end close (as assigned), including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations and account analysis in a timely manner. Included but not limited to:
- Accrued payroll reconciliations.
- Accrued liabilities reconciliations
- Prepaid tracking.
- Federal and state grant revenue tracking.
- Bond fees payable and related expenses.
- Payroll Entries.
- Note payable and receivable tracking.
- Assist with the analysis of purchases for capitalization and entry into fixed asset software.
- Assist with merchant account management.
- Identify and purpose solutions for automation and process improvements while ensuring daily responsibilities are completed with detail, accuracy and timeliness.
- Update and maintain policies and procedures documentation.
- Preform other job-related duties as directed by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- Will assist in review of work performed by the Accounting Specialists.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Education, Licensure, or Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Work Experience or Related Experience
- 3 years of experience in accounting, both transactional and analysis level.
- Experience in a multi-company environment.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong Excel skills.
- Experience with large ERP system, i.e. Workday, Oracle, SAP.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented focus, and ability to deal with a wide variety of personalities and learning styles.
- Strong Communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Strong problem solving skills and decisiveness.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
- Drive for continuous process improvements.
BACKGROUND CHECKS
- The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
- Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.
PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
- This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
- This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration.
- Local and in-state travel required.
