Purpose:

Safety is at the forefront of everything that we do. We hold the safety of our employees, visitors, and contractors to the highest standards possible. The Safety Co-op role provides a learning experience in a manufacturing setting for students’ related field of undergraduate or graduate study. Internships with a safety focus would support activities pertaining to Vesuvius Penn’s safety and health programs to ensure compliance with both OSHA requirements as well as Vesuvius Standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support for the safety and health program
  • Participate in daily management walkthroughs, identifying hazards and developing corrective actions
  • Assist with conducting risk assessments, ergonomic assessments, machine safety assessments, and exposure measurements
  • Participate in safety committee activities
  • Aid with internal safety audits and support for safety inspections
  • Assist in the development and deployment of health and safety programs on site
  • Assist with environmental and sustainability compliance initiatives
  • With supervisory oversight, develop and deliver safety training

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in the safety and health field of study. Candidate must have completed Freshman year undergraduate course work at a minimum.
  • Previous experience as an intern a plus, but not required.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The work environment has temperature extremes and moderate to high noise level. Regional travel is required occasionally.
