The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success. Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $800 million annual budget.
The Business Services Directorate (BSD) has an opening for a Senior Business Specialist position within the Business Operations Office supporting the Director’s Office. This individual will report to the Business Operations Manager for the Director’s Office.
Candidate will support a wide variety of financial and related functions for the Business Operations Office to the Director’s Office, including, but not limited to: budget/financial reporting, financial analysis, labor forecasting and contract administration.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Responsible for preparation and distribution of monthly budget reports for the various areas within the Director’s Office as assigned.
Responsible for review and approval of invoices, pay contracts, pre-vouchers, miscellaneous payments, travel, and web requisitions.
Responsible for creation of journal vouchers/entries with supporting documentation.
Manage contract administration.
Create, develop, and distribute ad-hoc financial reports as required.
Monitor commitments for Director’s Office projects.
Assist with labor forecasting, analyzing, tracking, and reporting.
Assist with variance monitoring.
Assist with rate development.
Assist with the proposal budget development.
Assist with the Laboratory’s annual budget submission process.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Adherence to all BNL/BSA’s business rules, allowable cost monitoring, and compliance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
BA or BS degree in a related business field or equivalent experience based on 2:1 (experience: college) years.
Minimum Of Six (6) Years’ Related Work Experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including the ability to create pivot tables and charts in Excel.
Able to prepare PowerPoint presentations.
Understanding of standard business functions and procedures (Accts. Payable, Accts. Receivable, Purchase Orders, Contracts, Misc. Payments, Journal Vouchers, and Travel).
Ability to analyze data, interpret results, and make recommendations.
Ability to prioritize and meet established deadlines.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Flexible team player with the ability to interact with staff at all levels to accomplish objectives, resolve issues, and establish positive working relationships.
Must be self-motivated, resourceful, and organized, taking ownership of all assigned work.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Cost Accounting Standard (CAS).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financials and the ability to create journal vouchers, queries, and generate reports.
Familiarity with Power Business Intelligence.
Knowledge of BNL/BSA’s policies, practices, and procedures.
Familiarity with Workday Human Resources software.
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements
The ability to work at a computer/keyboard for extended periods is essential.
Ability to concentrate on accuracy.
Compensation
Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable, and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $99,850 - $149,750 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education, and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
