Duties and Responsibilities
- Explains and interprets provisions of fire codes to building owners, managers, and employers.
- Issues summons for fire hazards not corrected on subsequent inspections and enforces code when responsible parties fail to cooperate.
- Leads educational training related to fire and life safety procedures and practices.
- Gathers and documents details of plans and submittal reviews; determines compliance and issues permits based on approved plans.
- Provides technical expertise, advice, and guidance related to code compliance questions and interpretations.
- Communicates with and supports customers regarding permit applications and other stakeholders, coordinates reviews with other departments, and recommends alternatives and solutions for maintaining compliance.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience :
High school diploma (or GED) and three (3) years of directly related experience and certified technical training in fire protection and prevention.An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.Licensing and Certifications :
Valid North Carolina Class C Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.North Carolina certification as a Fire / Arson Investigator.Possess a minimum of a probationary Fire Inspector Level II or higher certification issued through the NC Department of Insurance Code Officials Qualification Board. Fire Inspector Level III must be obtained within four (4) years of employment.Additional Information
