Position: Payroll Specialist
Location: Decatur, IL - 62526
Duration: 11 months contract
Pay rate: $20/hr.
Position Summary:
The Payroll Specialist will play a critical role in the Corporate Payroll team. In this fast-paced, customer service-driven environment, the Payroll Specialist will interact with a diverse workforce, including colleagues and management with high-level visibility. A successful candidate will demonstrate dedication to confidentiality and operational excellence with a strong customer focus. The individual in this role will gain valuable knowledge, skills, and experience in Payroll, interacting daily with colleagues and management at all levels. Excellent customer service is essential for this role, as it involves advising on personnel decisions affecting colleagues’ professional lives.
Job Responsibilities:
Process US and Canadian payroll with accuracy and timeliness.
Problem-solve to remediate any payroll processing errors.
Apply discretion in decision-making to maintain compliance while delivering a high level of customer service.
Communicate effectively with local management teams to ensure accurate payroll processing.
Approach processes and systems with a continuous improvement mindset.
Complete and balance all required payroll reconciliations with accuracy and timeliness.
Accurately complete Form 941, W2, T4, and other relevant tax documentation.
Maintain compliant and secure data management.
Ensure accurate process documentation, including manuals and SOPs.
Provide timely, accurate, and professional guidance and support to employees.
Serve as a secondary processor for US and Canadian non-exempt payrolls.
Collaborate with management and other departments across the organization to ensure top-notch customer service.
Job Requirements:
Minimum of three years of general office/accounting experience; payroll experience preferred.
Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
Intermediate understanding of accounting/mathematical procedures required.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Strong strategic thinking and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Superior attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies.
Motivation to innovate with a continuous improvement mindset.
Exceptional customer service, organization, and time management skills.
Ability to set goals, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
Comfortable making quick and calculated decisions.
Knowledge of IBM (CICS & IMS) and MDM systems preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
Must be able to hear and speak clearly; read, comprehend, and communicate orally and in writing.
Physical requirements include standing, filing, bending, sitting for extended periods, and working on the telephone.
