Senior Manager, Systems Software

Summary :

VIAVI (NASDAQ : VIAV) is a global provider of network test, monitoring and assurance solutions for telecommunications, cloud, enterprises, first responders, military, aerospace, and railway. VIAVI is also a leader in light management technologies for 3D sensing, anti-counterfeiting, consumer electronics, industrial, automotive, government and aerospace applications.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Software Manager to join our team developing state of the art test & measurement products. The candidate will hold a highly visible position in a very dynamic, multi-tasking work environment. This role requires both technical and leadership skills to be successful across different teams / locations / products.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Interact with diverse areas (e.g. marketing, operations, other divisions) to achieve business unit goals.
  • Display experience and participate in full lifecycle of development for software systems.
  • Act as a change agent, collaborate with others to create architecture roadmaps and improve development processes.
  • Develop and maintain a product roadmap aligned with industry architecture trends and the strategic direction of the business.
  • Identify skill set gaps and develop plans for resolution.
  • Support our "One-Team" initiative to converge on tools / processes across different R&D locations.
  • Mentor other SW leads to better enable cross-site development capabilities.
  • Exercise business acumen to make smart business and product trade-off decisions.
  • Work cross-functionally to perform risk assessments and encourage informed risks.
  • Manage complexity and ambiguity to lead teams in execution.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements :

  • Required Qualifications :
  • Education and general experience :
  • BSCS / BSCE or equivalent experience (required), advanced engineering degree (preferred)
  • 5 years of engineering leadership experience and 5 years of hands-on software development experience.
  • Organization development and communication :
  • Experience leading in-house and outsourced development teams.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute software schedules on-scope, on-time, and on-cost.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to define and create project management plans and documents.
  • Ability to work across sites, time zones, and cultures.
  • Software development environment and methodology experience :
  • Solid understanding of software development life cycle models.
  • Expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles.
  • System software methodology and architecture experience :
  • OO Design methodology experience.
  • Experience with enterprise-level solutions.
  • Significant experience with micro-service architectures.
  • Relevant and recent Cloud computing experience.
  • Programming language experience :
  • Relevant recent experience with UI technologies.
  • Java and JavaScript Web development skills.
  • Proficient with C and C programming languages.

  • Experience in technologies and trends in telecommunications.
  • Experience in Software Security and Vulnerability Assessment.
  • Experience in data warehouse mining.
