The Unit Secretary is an administrative professional who handles various clerical and patient-facing duties. In this role the Unit Secretary handles clerical and administrative tasks for the patients and healthcare providers. Interact with patients when they arrive, leave or call the department, and work with the Doctors, Nurses and other providers within the unit to support them. Responsible for ensuring patients files are accurate and ready, their insurance is verified and appointments and procedures are scheduled properly.

Required Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills couple with exceptional customer service

Experience with technology, including patient records software and HRIS scheduling/timekeeping

Exceptional knowledge of medical terminology and Skilled Nursing Facility processes

Experience scheduling patient appointments and providing the patient with instructions prior to procedures

Experience maintaining a professional level of patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA procedures

Must have strong and proven organizational skills

Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to prioritize work

High school diploma or equivalent degree is required

Must have CNA or GNA experience
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Greet new and existing patients upon their arrival for appointments or procedures

Schedule patient appointments, both new and follow-up

Make copies and fax paperwork to other medical offices upon receiving an official request for records

Review patient insurance documents and determine what procedures will be covered in addition to required deductibles

Organize and maintain patient files and records, retrieve test results as needed for physician's review

Prepare patient files and charts in anticipation of discharges and transfers to other physicians or departments
