Position is located in Syracuse, NY and will support the Carrier's central research and development as part of the Advanced Materials Engineering department. This individual will manage development of innovative materials being investigated as part of Carrier's efforts to advance the industry in HVAC. Novel materials and new methods of evaluation will be developed as part of an increasing need to look at non-traditional materials.
Position Summary :
Individual would have responsibility for development and validation of critical materials technologies, processes and suppliers supporting innovative HVAC applications across Carrier. They would be responsible for initial technology characterization and development through implementation and scale-up production. This includes both conducting or coordination of materials evaluations, interpretation of data, development of models and communication of results.
This position will require development of novel methods and techniques to characterize materials not previously considered within the HVAC industry. It will involve working with new suppliers and industries, as well as universities and consortiums to assist in identifying new research and materials for consideration. Coordination of activities across disciplines within Carrier will also be necessary to ensure the proper application of materials and processes. Within the Advanced Materials Engineering team, working with subject matter experts and test engineers and technicians will be needed to ensure the proper considerations are taken in evaluation of new materials and that these considerations are implemented in the characterization of said materials.
Key Job Responsibilities :
- Support innovative materials and component development with detailed evaluations, analysis, reporting and communication.
- Communicate to management and internal customers on plans, risks and results, through both written and verbal channels.
- Balance significant workload (support multiple projects, lead several projects). Propose priorities and readily shift activities to maximize impact.
- Develop new methodologies, equipment and capabilities to characterize and qualify materials and components, along with associated standard work.
- Organize support of development among numerous subject matter experts, engineers, technicians and customers, ensuring priority is clear and management is updated on status.
- Clearly articulate value of work conducted; proactively mitigate schedule risks and implement improvements
- Assist in the development of the materials team, especially as it relates to novel materials, recommending new trainings, conferences and publications.
- Maintain a safe working environment, following all procedures and PPE requirements.
- Must be self-driven and capable of conducting extensive development without frequent supervisor input.
- Must maintain an acceptable attendance, performance and discipline record.
