Job Title: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
The role of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Vighter is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to provide critical care services to individuals detained by Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
About the Job:
- Work administratively under the Regional Program Manager and Regional Deputy Program Manager while performing healthcare services under the medical direction of the National Medical Director and Physician Supervisors.
- Deliver healthcare in accordance with approved medical protocols and in compliance with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) directives.
- Collaborate with CBP's Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) to ensure high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide emergency care to stabilize patients for life, death, or loss of sight/limb situations until Emergency Medical Services arrives.
- Perform medical history and physical assessment; determine chief complaint.
- Take vital signs electronically and manually as indicated.
- Apply professional principles, procedures, and techniques for patient care.
- Maintain compliance with DHS and CBP policies and any overriding accreditation standards that may apply.
- Work within licensure/certification, Scope of Practice, and Guidelines as provided by CBP contracted employer and the certifying authority or agency.
- Maintain non-involvement in the security aspect of patient care and custody.
- Attend general staff meetings and participate with medical quality management initiatives and reviews as applicable.
- Assure a safe and clean working environment and assist in the disposal of biologically hazardous waste on a regular basis.
Requirements:
- Minimum one year of experience in direct patient care as a licensed/certified EMT.
- Successful completion of a US-based training program leading to licensure/certification as an Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).
- Current, active, valid, unencumbered license/registration/certification to practice healthcare in the state in which the candidate will work.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from one of the following approved organizations: American Heart Association (AHA), AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, American Red Cross CPB/BLS for the professional rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR and AED for healthcare providers and professional responders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience in a detention/correctional and/or pediatric setting.
Working Conditions:
- Day, night, weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Able to walk, stand, bend, and/or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
- Able to perform BLS/CPR if necessary and assist patients into/out of a wheelchair.
- Able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
- Able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
- Able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
