Description
Incumbent serves as Treatment Director for the Vigo County Home for Children, responsible for treatment planning and coordinating clinical services and in-house programming.
Example of Duties
- Supervises assigned staff, including providing orientation and training, planning, delegating, and controlling work assignments, establishing specific work goals, evaluating job performances, and keeping supervisor and assigned staff informed of organizational developments.
- Provides case management expertise, conducts initial assessment and screening to determine level of care and appropriate evaluation for program, including leading treatment team in establishing individual treatment plans.
- Creates and updates individualized treatment plans, including revision of daily logs to reflect program and lead required meeting. Assures quality of care and services in compliance with licensing regulations.
- Provides individual and family counseling, and provides crisis intervention and mental health evaluations, including individual and family counseling when outside services are inappropriate, and conducting group sessions.
- Maintains records, including administrative and therapeutic documents, treatment plans, monthly progress reports, and Therapeutic Senior notes.
- Provides progress notes and makes inquiries into productivity of services with youth’s clinical service providers.
- Conducts CANS and IARCA outcome, measures assessments and reassessments as part of intake and ongoing treatment plans, and discharge.
- Attends seminars, workshops and conferences, and provides in-service to staff in regards to implementing therapeutic needs or behavior.
- Participates in supervision and training of staff.
- Initiates and maintains psychiatric services to include medication maintenance.
- Maintains, reviews, and updates procedures in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and adapts forms and programming.
- Supervises interns and volunteers, including planning, delegating, and controlling daily activities and identifies learning opportunities.
- Performs administrative duties of Executive Director in his/her absence. May serve as consultant for juvenile court proceedings.
- Promotes positive public relations, including speaking to community groups.
- Transports residents to psychiatric appointments and attends appointment.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Masters degree in social work or like field.
- Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Working knowledge of standard office policies and procedures and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks and operations.
- Working knowledge of Standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to prepare personnel evaluations, various documents, memorandums, correspondence, and detailed reports as required.
- Working knowledge of an ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents and reference book such as, policy manuals, and first aid manuals.
- Knowledge of and ability to learn and understand counseling and “street slang” terminology, language, principles, and techniques, and ability to expound on knowledge of topics related to child counseling.
- Knowledge of basic filing systems and ability to create and maintain accurate and complete Department files/records.

Incumbent performs duties according to state and federal regulations and standard operating procedures. Duties are complex in nature, involving several variables and considerations. Incumbent exercises independent judgment in applying ordinances to individual cases.
Incumbent is responsible for authoritatively interpreting and applying well-established policies and procedures to a variety of unrelated cases and circumstances which may impact the safety and welfare of the residents and staff. Incumbent reports/discusses unprecedented situations with supervisor as needed. Incumbent's work is periodically reviewed for compliance with legal requirements and/or effect on department goals/objectives. Periodically, decisions are made in the absence of specific policies, and/or guidance from supervisor.
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, residents and their families, medical professionals, counselors and therapists, and the public for purposes of exchanging information, rendering service, resolving problems, and providing instruction/guidance.
Incumbent reports directly to Executive Director.
Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment within a group home for children, involving sitting/walking at will, sitting for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing less than 25 pounds, keyboarding, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is exposed to various human physical and mental disorders and may respond to situations involving potential physical harm to self or others. Universal safety precautions must be followed at all times. Incumbent occasionally travels out of town for training.
