Description
The part-time Direct Care Staff will be primarily responsible for providing care and supervision of youth in the program. Youth served are placed via the Indiana Department of Child Services or the Indiana Juvenile Justice System. Youth served have experienced trauma and will display reactionary behaviors. This staff member will serve as a youth advocate for assigned residents. The staff member will ensure that residents' developmental needs are met within a safe and supportive environment that enhances their ability to meet their treatment goals.
Example of Duties
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in trauma informed care, crisis intervention, and milieu management. In addition to demonstrating the ability to:
- Abide by the directives of the supervisor and director.
- Effectively respond to and manage youth behavioral problems and prevent crisis situations by adopting a proactive approach of leadership, direction, encouragement, and instruction.
- Consistently implement treatment plans to accommodate the individual needs of the youth, reduce maladaptive behaviors, and promote positive change.
- Promote and assist with the development of daily living, self-help and social skills.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Perform effectively with moderate supervision.
- Present as a positive role model for the youth at all times through presentation, disposition, and actions.
- Provide programming, recreation, and leisure activities for the youth.
- Complete required documentation in a professional manner.
- Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
- Attend all meetings, in-services, and trainings as scheduled.
- Adhere to the guidelines pertaining to policies and procedures, along with agency, county, state, and federal regulations.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or HSE
- Demonstrate reliability and dependability to work scheduled shifts, arrive on time, and be present the entire shift.
Special Requirements
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- Favorably meet and maintain Vigo County Homes for Children background screening.
- Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal offenses.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Complete all trainings (CPR, AED, First Aid, CPI, etc.) as scheduled after being hired.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to operate a variety of automated office machines.
- Ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to light work involving routine stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Ability to participate in physical recreational activities and exercise programs.
Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication
- Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents, reports, and records.
- Ability to comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals including policy manuals, school handbooks, and first-aid manuals.
- Ability to prepare resident files, recreation sheets, information petitions, chore charts, memorandum, correspondence, and other job related documents using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
- Ability to accurately record and deliver information, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of restricted information.
- Ability to make independent judgments, use common sense, and utilize the principles of influence and rational systems in the performance of tasks.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions, to respond immediately to crisis situations, and to balance priorities within and between offices/departments and agencies.
- Ability to maintain personal composure and tactfully handle difficult situations and interpret questions correctly; ability to behave in an understanding, helpful, and professional manner.
Environmental Adaptability
- Ability to work effectively in a residential home environment, ability to protect self and others in situations that may include violence, toxic agents/chemicals, diseases, etc.
- Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
- Ability to physically protect self and others in crisis situations and highly emotional situations.
