Incumbent serves as Assistant Director for Vigo County Victim Assistance Program, responsible for assisting in managing the victim assistance program for providing assistance and support to victims of Vigo County.

Essential Functions
- Serves as a liaison between crime victims and the criminal justice system; explain criminal justice processes; such as reporting, investigation, court hearings, and other procedures.
- Oversees the operation of a volunteer and intern program including periodical review.
- Accompanies victims to appointments with law enforcement and prosecutors. They accompany victims to court hearings, trials, and sentencing hearings. Provide victims with case progress reports through regular follow-up contacts. Advocates inform the community of services available.
- Assists eligible victims of violent crime in applying for funds through Indiana’s Violent Crime Compensation Division; periodically review application procedures and intervene on behalf of victims who encounter problems related to their compensation claims; provide referrals to appropriate agencies and distribute brochures and other related materials as needed.
- Makes social service and other referrals to appropriate agencies and distributes brochures and other related materials as needed, including periodically reviewing available services to provide up-to-date information to victims.
- Answers telephone and greets office visitors, determining nature of call, providing information and assistance, scheduling meetings, completing paperwork, providing support and referrals, taking messages, and/or transferring to appropriate office or individual.
- Participates in continuing education by attending workshops, seminars, conferences, and other trainings which address victims’ issues to further knowledge and provide up-to-date services/ information.
- Participates as active members of various community organizations which aid in supporting victims’ issues.
- Completes a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education training yearly to maintain credentialing with National Crime Advocacy Program (NCAP).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and moderate experience.
- Must complete a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of continuing education training annually.
- Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
- Specialized knowledge of social work and counseling in areas related to victims of violent crime and child abuse through extensive experience sufficient to apply current theories, practices and procedures to specific situations.
- Thorough knowledge of current training required for volunteers, and ability to maintain related records.
- Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department records and information according to state requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information pertaining to clients and department information and records according to state requirements.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply a wide variety of state and federal guidelines and specific regulations to particular situations and individuals.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, law enforcement, various local shelters and organizations, referral/service providers, courts, hospitals, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.

- Incumbent assist Director in performing a variety of duties which are broad in scope and require the consideration of several, complex variables and their potential interrelationships in the design, assessment, and modification of strategies and techniques, and in the overall administration of the department. Guidelines are not always clearly applicable to particular situations and cases, calling for individual judgment in selection and modification of standard procedures to best fit existing circumstances.
- Incumbent assist Director in making a substantial contribution to overall support services within the County. Majority of work is performed according to general instructions and/or in conjunction with department policies and guidelines with proposed modifications from standard practices discussed with superiors at the discretion of the incumbent. Work is periodically reviewed for attainment to objectives, and adherence to instructions/guidelines. Incumbent regularly makes decisions in absence of policy.
