Position Summary

3 years’ experience in industrial sandblasting/painting, or a demonstrated skill set allowing individual to blast/paint to specifications with minimaloversight.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must demonstrate the ability to obtain the following certifications within two years of hire:
Maybeexposedtoexcessive noise, paint gasesandfumes,andvarying weather conditions. May work in confined spaces or at height. Proper protective equipmentwill beprovidedasnecessary.
This position may require occasional travel within the greater metropolitan area. Unless approved by the General Manager in advance, mileage accrued within this expected work areas will not be eligible for reimbursement but will be in alignment with Vigor’s reimbursement policy.
Must have the ability to perform the essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others.

Position Summary
- Responsible for sandblasting steel products to required degree needed to SSPC standards, and directing associates where needed
- Responsible for painting products to required specification and directing associates where needed.
- Successfully performs work as an individual, as a member of a single craft, or multi-craft work crew. Performs work with minimal supervision safely and efficiently. Other duties may be assigned.

- Operate and maintain all sandblasting equipment
- Responsible for completing all assigned blasting tasks such as masking/protecting any surfaces from blast media
- Requires forklift training, blast media handling and storage
- Blast recovery and/or disposal processes
- Identification of non-serviceable blast media
- Perform Soluble Salt Tests and reference acceptance criteria
- Test and document environmental conditions and reference acceptance criteria.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections on personal blast equipment including hose, nozzle, light, hood etc.
- Troubleshoot and repair field equipment including, blast pot, dust collector, vacuum, compressor, dehumidifier, etc.
- Working knowledge of both airless and conventional spray equipment and techniques
- Responsible for completing assigned tasks such as:
- Performing SSPC SP1
- Masking
- Stripe Coating
- Maintaining associated painting equipment
- Care and identification of serviceable coatings and thinners
- Safe work habits
- Housekeeping
- Manage a daily budget of hours vs. daily output
- Flag any production issues that may impact the schedule
- Applies coatings to complex structures with minimal to no quality problems
- Epoxies and Acrylics
- Urethanes and Polysiloxanes
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions, regarding daily functions, safety rules and regulations, and possible hazardous conditions.
- Ability to give instruction to others assigned to assist on projects.
- Must understand good sandblasting/painting practice
- Must have working knowledge of different blast media and purpose
- Working knowledge of blast nozzle sizes, styles and purpose
- Working knowledge of all levels of surface preparation SPI-1
- Working knowledge of determining blast profile using Testex Tape
- Understand ricochet, dust collection, and airflow
- Working knowledge of post blast conditions such as rust bloom
- Knowledge of blast signals to communicate with blast pot tender
- Knowledge of basic operation of wheel blast machines
- Knowledge of blast pot tending requirements
- Demonstrates ability to blast 65 sq ft to SP-10 in 1 hour
- Ability to determine PSI requirements and settings
- Ability to determine blast media suitability for use
- Ability to perform a blotter test in accordance with ASTM 4285
- Know SSPC written definitions of blast standards 5, 6, 7, 10
- Working knowledge of manufactures P.D.S.
- Ability to mix coatings
- Working knowledge of between coat preparation
- Working knowledge of surface preparation standards SP1-SP10
- An ability to function in a safe manner and in accordance with company and industry standards
- Able to identify and repair unsafe conditions
- Ability to set-up/teardown, and clean paint application equipment
- Ability to calculate required WFT needed in order to achieve desired DFT
- Knowledge of what the number on an airless tip signify
- Knowledge to identify a distorted spray fan/pattern and ways to correct
- Knowledge of what the number on an airless tip signify

- Demonstrates ability to coat 100 sq ft with 2% or less rework in 20 minutes with no holidays
- Test and document environmental conditions and reference acceptance criteria
- Conduct Dry Film Thickness measurements according to SSPC PA-2

- Ability to lift, carry 60LBs, or maneuver objects, difficult objects will be lifted with the assistance of mechanical means or additional manpower.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb.
