Position Summary
The Payroll Analyst ensures that salaried and hourly payroll processes are accomplished appropriately and in a timely manner. He/she coordinates the payroll functions for multiple companies with differing pay rules. The position serves as support to the Payroll System Supervisor to resolve issues while seeking improvements in operational processes and also provides administrative support to the entire Payroll Team as needed. The Payroll Analyst works effectively with a diverse population both within the Accounting Department and throughout the company.
Salary Range
Portland: $64,000 - $78,000
Seattle: $84,000 – 87,000

The Payroll Analyst is expected to establish effective relationships and work to resolve problems by working closely with other accounting and payroll department staff and those in related departments such as Human Resources, Information Technology within and without the company.

The work environment for this job is primarily office-oriented with open shared office spaces and constant interruptions; some travel within in a heavy industrial environment when performing certain administrative functions or overseeing payroll work. Essential Functions And Major Responsibilities

- Conducts weekly audits of production payroll, monitoring state taxation and accuracy. Performs month-end reconciliations and necessary audits to ensure the integrity of the payroll.
- Responsible for prevailing wage activities weekly and at conclusion of the job.
- Daily upload of direct deposit files in a timely manner, following NACHA guidelines.
- Prepares and pays weekly payroll taxes due accurately and timely. Assists Payroll System Supervisor and payroll team with quarterly tax reconciliation, preparation, and filing. Includes follow-up research and adjustment entries as necessary.
- Personally and confidentially, processes certain salaried payrolls including garnishments, deductions; responds to questions from employees and resolves discrepancies; maintains the payroll database.
- Supports the maintenance of payroll records and databases; validates payroll records by performing audits to ensure accuracy; prepares reports and summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leaves, taxable and nontaxable wages; responds to requests for information as needed for labor negotiations and other management needs.
- Provides administrative support in 401K compliance, review and audit processes.
- Supports Payroll System Supervisor in monitoring and processing of 401K salary deferrals and loan payments.
- Creates work instructions for payroll functions within Kronos and outside the system.
- Provides ongoing assistance to other payroll staff members. Covers for payroll staff members during vacation and absences.
- Performs related duties and special projects, as assigned.

- Ability to analyze and interpret data.
- Skilled at PC use including databases, spreadsheets and related computer programs designed for payroll.
- Intermediate Excel skills; for example, pivot tables, v-lookups and sum-ifs.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of payroll processing; rule, laws and requirements in operating a payroll function.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of others in the work place.
- Ability to focus on the big picture while attending to multiple detail requirements.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
- Ability to formulate and implement solutions.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments, employees and outside customers.
- Must be a well-organized, detailed and customer (internal and external) oriented self-starter.
- Ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively and respond well to last minute, high priority, time sensitive projects.
- Associate in Accounting is preferred.
- (2) Years of experience in an analytical role and/or in administering a multi-company payroll.
- Kronos Systems including Time and Attendance, Human Resources and Payroll is preferred.
- Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
