What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool Maker position at Viking Plastics?
Viking Plastics is looking for a responsible Tool Maker to work in our Jeffersonville, IN machine division. The ideal candidate will possess a trained eye for detail and will be reliable and committed.
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Managing all phases of jobs assigned to him to assure on-time delivery
- Attending tooling kick-off meetings and preliminary design reviews to make recommendations
- Machining, fitting, and assembling all components of a complex tool
- Troubleshooting and repairing any damaged tool
- Training apprentice in trade skill, safety, communication, and culture
- Coordinating scheduling of his jobs with the Tooling Manager
- Running various machines as required to complete his jobs
- Communicating with and sometimes traveling to customers to assist in troubleshooting or repairs
- Helping develop new methods and procedures to reduce deliveries
- Maintaining a clean work area
- Performance of other duties as may be assigned by supervisor
- Filling out daily time tickets and other paperwork as required
- Attending Monday tooling meetings
Needed competencies include:
- Understanding of the Quality Policy and how it affects this job
- Running & operating Knee Mill, Surface Grinders, Lathe
- CNC Wire & CNC turning experience a plus
- Good communication skills
- Managing skills for multi projects
- Blueprint reading and math skills
- Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Solid understanding of the following procedures: (See QF-6.2.2-5)
- Ability to support and communicate Viking’s culture and core values and participate in the continuous improvement process
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent and Certificate of completion for a Toolmaker or 10 years experience on the job training
