Chaplain at Village Chapel of Bald Head Island

Position: Chaplain at The Village Chapel on Bald Head Island. This is a part time position with a minimum requirement of 25 hours per week.

Job Requirements: It is preferred that the Chaplain be educated at an accredited theological institution, and possess an M.Div., D.Min. or PhD and be experienced in the local church. The Chaplain will work closely with existing volunteers and part time staff . He/she will be responsible for carrying out the mission and vision of the Village Chapel.

The Chapel’s vision states: “The Village Chapel of Bald Head Island provides all people an opportunity to worship God, express faith, and observe Judeo Christian traditions to connect with God, connect with others, and connect others with God.”.

The Chaplain's role will be to connect people to God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and people to people (Mt. 22:37-39), as is reflected in the above vision statement.

Job Duties:

1) Providing professional oversight such that the Chapel more effectively meets its mission and vision.

2) Empowering, inspiring, and growing the volunteer staff such that ministry outcomes are identified and achieved.

3) Attending to the spiritual and relational needs of islanders and visitors.

4) Connecting the Village Chapel to other island institutions.

5) The Chaplain should be comfortable with:

a) Developing, implementing and assessing evangelism and discipleship initiatives.

b) Initiating and developing relationships with a variety of people.

c) Preaching, teaching and leading both large and small groups.

d) Delegating to and equipping the saints.

e) Working alongside staff (professional and volunteer) in support of the Chapel's mission and vision.

f) Supporting corporate worship and performing weddings, baptisms, funerals and other Chapel programs.

g) Be familiar with all Village Chapel operations, protocols and procedures. h) Connecting with visiting preachers.

h) A limited preaching responsibility of approximately 4 Sundays per year.

The Chaplain will report to the Chapel’s Board of Trustees through the Executive Committee.
