What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Elder / Pastor position at Village Church of Knoxville?
About Village Church
Village Church is a non-denominational, elder-led, congregational church located in the Norwood community of North Knoxville. Our mission statement is to glorify God by making, growing, and sending disciples of Jesus Christ. We are a church who loves to fellowship whether that be before, during, and after our Sunday morning gatherings, in small groups, in a Sunday morning Bible study, in discipling relationships, or in men’s and women’s groups during the week. We are a church committed to advancing the Gospel in the community we live in, and our outreach efforts are focused on the streets and neighborhoods that surround our building. Our church is preparing to send out some of our own to an unreached people group in 2025. We have been given a great burden for the lost both near and far.
Job Description
We are seeking a man to join our elders in a paid position (vocational or bi-vocational) as a co-laborer in the ministry of Village Church. He will be responsible for heralding the Word of God to rightly comfort the discouraged, help the weak, (1 Thess. 5:14), preach the whole plan of God (Acts 20:27), and preach the Gospel of Jesus in all seasons (2 Tim 4:2). This man would preach most weekly Sunday gatherings while developing the preaching ministry of the elder body. As an elder of Village Church, he will lead in the discipleship of other men “who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim 2:2) and actively seek opportunities to cultivate like-minded congregations for the benefit of the community.
Qualifications
A man who meets the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9, leading the congregation by teaching the Word (1 Tim. 3:2) and overseeing the affairs of the church (1 Pet. 5:2).
An elder must watch over the flock. He must instruct all the sheep, strengthen the weak ones, guard the vulnerable ones, rebuke the obstinate ones, and bear with the difficult ones (2 Tim. 2:24-25; Acts 20:28; 1 Thess. 5:14). An elder watches over the members of the church as one who will give an account to God (Heb. 13:17)
He will seek God’s guidance for Village Church in order to steward resources entrusted to the church in a way that gives God glory (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:1-4).

He will act in a way that is above reproach, making his family the priority of his ministry (1 Timothy
3:1-7). He will understand the way he lives will affect the church he leads, and he will live in a way that honors how Jesus portrays the beauty of His gospel and His Church.
