DPW BUILDING AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
To perform a variety of manual labor work including heavy manual labor for extended periods of time involved in all Water, Sewer, Road, Building Maintenance, Grounds Departments and other tasks as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under immediate supervision of an employee of a higher class.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manual labor which includes but not limited to shoveling, raking, trimming trees and scrubs, painting, trash pick up, weeding, edging, mulch and soil application, fence repairs, along with building maintenance by sweep, mops, cleaning, changing of light bulbs and battery’s, etc.
- Safely operates and maintains powered tools and grounds-care equipment such as tractors, mowers – riding & push, trimmers, blowers, spreaders, chain saws
- Remove ice and snow from walkways and other required locations
- General labor required in assisting crew in installation and repairs of sewer and water lines or similar activities
- Basic mechanical maintenance such as greasing gear, bushings and bearings, changing filters, switches and sparkplugs
- Works with others as a team to achieve the common goal of assigned tasks
- Report for work on time and complete all scheduled shifts
- Assist all other departments when requested
- Help train other employees on certain job tasks when necessary.
- Complete all assignments requested
- Maintain open line of communication with your direct supervisor
- Complete daily time sheets.
- Perform other essential tasks as identified by supervision
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age. Hold a valid Michigan drivers license and be able to be insurable under the Village of Beulah’s carrier.
- No prior experience necessary. The ability to pick up new tasks with proper training and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision for most of the day is essential. Must have excellent communication skills and be a team player with a positive attitude.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, in all types of weather and under various working conditions.
- Ability to work effectively and establish good working relationships with other employees, residents and general public.
- Meet the physical requirements that may include balance, dexterity, motor skills, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, agile and flexible enough to work in small spaces. Ability to work in all seasonal environments
- Practice all safety policies, procedures and standards as set by OSHA.
