What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Maintenance Worker position at Village of DeForest?
Seasonal athletic complex maintenance worker position available. Serves as the Village of DeForest's 25-acre Athletic Complex. This position is essential to the operations of the Athletic Complex. Helping to ensure that visitors to the Athletic Complex have the best experience.
Ideal candidate will have knowledge and/or experience with park maintenance and turf management. This position could serve as an internship if candidate desires. The candidate in this position will be responsible for maintenance of synthetic turf infield and natural aggregate infield.
Key responsibilities would include:
- Perform ball diamond maintenance, grooming, chalking, striping on synthetic and natural infields, preparing the diamonds for games
- Perform field striping of football fields
- Mow diamond outfields, football fields, and general park areas
- Operate equipment as needed, including but not limited to: trucks, riding and push lawn mowers, trimmer, etc.
- Perform equipment maintenance
- Perform daily restroom janitorial duties
- Perform landscaping in flower beds and around complex
- Turf maintenance and repairs; rolling, aerating, fertilize, etc.
- Maintain a clean park by cleaning up litter, emptying trash and recycling containers
- Assist as needed in the concession area
Hours of employment would typically be between Monday-Thursday 7:00am-4:00pm, Fridays 7:30am-2:00pm, with hours being flexible as some weekend work may be required to ensure the tasks get completed. Position is geared to start late-April with limited hours working within candidate's reasonable availability. Hours will increase in mid-May through mid/late August. Hours would be reduced through mid-October as needed. The position will begin at 20-25 hours per week and could possibly increase up to 40 hours per week. Pay for this position is $15.00 per hour. Majority of work performed is outside and is completed in a variety of weather conditions.
Qualifications:
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, taking direction from others
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal immediate supervision
- Demonstrate safe work practices
- Ability to push, pull, lift, carry for four consecutive hours, up to 50 pounds
- Positive and courteous interaction skills with all people
- Pesticide applicator certificate preferred
- Experience operating small UTV, diamond grooming equipment, field stripers, zero-turn mowers, push mower, trimmer, and other landscaping tools
- Must be self motivated and responsible
- Have and wear steel-toed shoes or boots daily
- Hold valid driver's license
- High school graduate or equivalent
